On a bleak July evening in 1998, adolescent Fujino Asagami was viciously assaulted by a rough crowd inside a rundown tavern. Whatever physical or sexual torment they inflicted, the girl kept an indifferent stare toward her assailants. The following morning, dismembered corpses were uncovered in the same establishment; their condition was so grotesque that investigators doubted any human involvement, describing it as a scene beyond the realm of ordinary crime and no one could fathom the motive.
Meanwhile, a patron contacted Touko Aozaki"s detective firm, assigning Shiki Ryougi the mission to apprehend or eliminate the assailant responsible for last night"s horror. Word soon reached that a lone survivor had fled the massacre, and now the killer is relentlessly hunting them, leaving a trail of terror in every place they pass.
