Mikiya Kokutou entrusts Shiki Ryougi with a cat to keep while he departs. Despite her protests, he leaves the feline behind, and Shiki finds herself perplexed by this new companion. Yet fate seems to favor the cat, which grows fond of Mikiya and longs for his return in their shared apartment in moonlit night under stars.
Later, in another district of the city, Ririsu Miyazuki visits the site where her dear friend ended her life. She intends to follow suit, but encounters Fujino Asagami, a blind classmate scarred by trauma. Though the girls share little common ground, Asagami evokes memories of Miyazuki"s lost companion and helps her process the grief in the shadow of deep sorrow.
Two months later, Mikiya chooses to celebrate New Year"s Eve with Shiki instead of his family, which angers his sister Azaka; she spends the holiday with classmates. As snow begins to fall, Mikiya reflects on his deepest desire: that Shiki"s life be filled with happiness in the quiet glow of winter lights and hopeful hearts.
