Friendship has always been a source of disappointment for Mei Tachibana, the sad reality she endures since grade school when her so‑called friends wrongly accused her of killing a class pet. From that point on she withdrew from everyone to shield herself from further pain. Yet her world shifts dramatically in high school when a simple misunderstanding brings her face‑to‑face with the popular Yamato Kurosawa.
Yamato is instantly intrigued and presses on to be her friend, even though Mei resists. A dangerous encounter with a stalker ends when Yamato kisses her to protect her from unwanted attention, and Mei starts to feel something more. Realizing their feelings are shared, they begin dating; she gains not only a boyfriend but also new companions. Still, Mei struggles to adjust to this fresh lifestyle, especially when it comes to expressing her true emotions toward Yamato.
Through misinterpretations of their budding romance, each other"s intentions, and the interest of rival girls, Mei and Yamato gradually draw nearer.
