A squid‑shaped alien, called a Happian, departs his native world with the mission of spreading joy throughout the cosmos. He carries a luminous orb that represents hope, hoping it will guide his journey. Upon arriving on Earth, he quickly faces the threat of being captured by its residents. Luckily, a grim‑faced young girl named Shizuka Kuze discovers him, feeds him, and christens him Takopii. Grateful, Takopii resolves to do everything possible to light up her face.
The challenge is far from simple. Shizuka endures bullying at school, has no father, and her mother rarely returns home—details that largely escape the naïve Takopii. Nevertheless, she finds comfort in her dog Chappy, and this bond only fuels Takopii"s determination to bring a grin to the girl.
His mission is driven by a belief that even the act can spark widespread joy. Although his efforts sometimes backfire, he remains steadfast. Takopii takes matters into his own tentacles, tests his grasp of human nature, and strives to fulfill his promise of spreading happiness.
