Derived from Winsor McCay's classic Nemo comic strips, the pioneering animator McCay produced the inaugural Little Nemo film in 1911. Initially involved were Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, who departed over "creative differences"; Ray Bradbury is also believed to have exited during the early phases. Little Nemo – Adventures in Slumberland became the first Japanese anime to secure a nationwide U.S. theatrical distribution.
