Although everyday life is saturated with kaleidoscopic wonder, Hitomi Tsukishiro lives in a grayscale existence that lacks emotion and feeling. On a night as monochrome as any other, while fireworks illuminate the sky with brilliant sparks, Hitomi"s grandmother Kohaku performs a spell she has practiced for sixty years by channeling moonlight, sending Hitomi back to 2018 when Kohaku attended high school.
Hitomi"s objective remains vague, yet her grandmother tells her she will understand upon arrival. After traveling through time on a train pulled by an odd yellow beast, Hitomi arrives in the austere studio of artist Yuito Aoi, whose drawings splash her world with color in a quiet, lit room with oil paint scent. What is Hitomi"s mission there, and why do Yuito"s paintings restore such vivid hues to her dull existence?
