Ren Amamiya, a new transfer pupil at Shujin Academy, is dispatched to Tokyo to stay with his family acquaintance Sojiro Sakura after being unjustly placed on probation for shielding a woman from sexual assault. While heading to his first day at the new school, Ren spots an odd app that appears on his phone, transporting him to a realm called the Metaverse, which houses people's 'shadows': warped portrayals of their authentic selves. In the Metaverse, he summons his Persona, an inner power that equips him to confront the shadows. Together with similarly troubled classmates, he establishes the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, striving to rescue individuals from their corrupt desires by 'stealing their heart,' compelling wrongdoers to feel remorse and reform. The group's notoriety rapidly expands, attracting both favorable and unfavorable acclaim in both the media and underground circles, while critics question their methods and supporters rally behind their cause for justice. Yet, at the zenith of their fame, Ren is seized and detained. He awakens to a severe interrogation, which abruptly ends when Sae Niijima—a prosecutor—arrives seeking explanations. How will she respond to his account, and what fate awaits the Phantom Thieves in an uncertain realm of justice and law.
