While most deities in the celestial domain shun interactions with the neglected god Xie Lian, Emperor Jun Wu regards him favorably. Xie Lian"s fortunes are otherwise bleak, and to compound his misfortunes the gods suspect that his latest associate was the feared Spectral King Hua Cheng. Though others view him with disdain, Xie Lian cherishes the vow Hua Cheng made: upon their next encounter, Hua Cheng will reveal his true form.
Jun Wu relays to Xie Lian the unsettling report that a divine distress cry was detected emanating from Ghost City—the richest enclave of the spectral realm, governed solely by Hua Cheng"s decree. Unfazed by entering Hua Cheng"s domain, Xie Lian infiltrates the city to seek the vanished deity. There he finds the authentic Hua Cheng awaiting him. The most dreaded entity across all three realms, yet before Xie Lian his pride diminishes. Without disclosing the motive behind his benevolence, he employs every resource to alleviate Xie Lian"s perpetual misfortunes.
