Mayuri Shiina introduces a cognitive computing unit—its interface displayed on a big pink Oopa plush—to the Future Gadget Laboratory, claiming it will assist her and Kurisu Makise in cooking fried chicken for everyone, much to the annoyance of Rintarou Okabe and Itaru "Daru" Hashida. Even though the necessary ingredients are missing, the Oopa system helps Mayuri and Kurisu refine a recipe that the other lab members will relish.
Later episodes show the computer continuing to support Okabe and his companions in everyday tasks. From mediating a dispute between Okabe and Kurisu to gathering lab members" feedback for lab upgrades; although Okabe may not yet see it, the group has acquired a valuable tool.
