Yato is a wandering, half‑forgotten Japanese god who dreams of fame, honor, and his own shrines. But luck has not been particularly on his side so far. Therefore our sports‑suit enthusiast has to take any job, earning only five yen as a token of gratitude for its completion. Nevertheless he believes that one day he will be able to save enough for his own shrine, even though all his savings currently fit easily into a sake bottle.
Things are so bad that even Mayu – Yato"s sacred weapon, which had served him for many years – leaves him, saying that it can no longer live a wandering life. Without his sacred weapon, the god"s life becomes far from divine; even standing up for himself is now problematic, as evil spirits lurk around every corner.
But one day the hero"s life changes dramatically. While carrying out one of his errands – namely searching for a missing kitten named Vladika – Yato saves a girl named Ichi Hiiri from being hit by a truck. At that moment she didn"t yet know that nothing would have happened to him anyway, but the accident"s consequences were quite tangible for her. After that incident Ichi began to leave her body periodically, and completely unplanned! Deciding that something must be done about this, Ichi finds Yato and makes a deal with him: he will help her return to normalcy, and the price for this contract is five yen. Will Yato be able to fulfill her request?
