The cease‑fire that bound the prosperous seaport Itha to the desolate war‑state Paro finally collapses when Paro"s avaricious king plots to strike Itha and plunder its wealth. After this grim betrayal, rising hostility on both sides unsettles the joy of Itha"s princess Ahnas and Paro"s prince Jill, lovers who cherish one another.
Farmers of the tranquil hamlet Saki also feel uneasy. Their fields lie between Itha and Paro, exposing them to the danger of a looming conflict. Nevertheless one villager remains unafraid. Izu, a vigorous and ambitious youth, views the war as a chance to earn renown and riches. Drawn by Paro"s pledge of substantial bounty, he eagerly accepts the kingdom"s summons, promising his devoted wife Marin that they will soon be together again.
Heartbroken, Marin turns to prayer for her husband"s safe return. At the same time, Ahnas and Jill refuse to let duty or family enmity sever their bond. Whether their sincere love can triumph over folly and greed, or will be surrendered to petty ambitions, remains uncertain.
