Patema is a woman from an underground civilization that boasts a maze of tunnels. Motivated by the mysterious disappearance of a friend, she often receives scolding for her repeated ventures through these passages because of her noble birth. When she steps into the area called the "forbidden zone," a bizarre creature startles her and she tumbles into an enormous, endless chasm.
Emerging on the surface—a world that has literally flipped—she begins to fall toward the heavens, only to be rescued by Age, a pupil from Aiga. In Aiga, citizens are taught that "Inverts," such as Patema, are sinners destined to be "devoured by the sky." Yet Age rejects this dogma and vows to shield his ally. Their shared curiosity drives them to challenge the oppressive narratives that divide societies. Their encounter sparks a quest across two realms, as they collaborate to uncover the mysteries of their origins.
