Keiichi Maebara has just arrived in the tranquil hamlet of Hinamizawa during the summer of 1983, and soon forms an unbreakable bond with classmates Rena Ryuuguu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude. Yet beneath their peaceful existence lies a hidden darkness.
As the village readies itself for its yearly festival, Keiichi becomes aware of local myths tied to it. To his dismay, he learns that the town has suffered multiple killings and vanishings in recent years, all seemingly linked to the celebration and the deity Oyashiro. When he questions his new companions about these occurrences, they remain oddly quiet and deny providing the information he seeks. With each strange incident that unfolds, he starts to suspect what else his friends might conceal, and whether he can truly rely on them.
When insanity and suspicion take root in Keiichi's mind, he is thrust straight into the enigmas that drive Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, a tale narrated through several arcs. These intertwined mysteries will test his resolve and force him to confront the village's sinister past.
