Most citizens describe civil servants as frustrating, inadequate and irritating. Yet three new hires are about to see what really unfolds behind the curtain. Lucy Yamagami, determined to retaliate against the clerk who stamped her absurdly long name on her birth certificate; Yutaka Hasebe, a laid‑back fellow who constantly searches for a place to laze; and Saya Miyoshi, a jittery rookie, are about to experience the bland reward of working for the government. They are meant to be mentored by Taishi Ichimiya, but despite eight years in the office he cannot figure out how to train anyone. Coupled with a bungling senior coworker and hostile client disputes, the trio begins to doubt their chosen path but keeps each other motivated to persevere.
