Panda Kopanda (Panda! Go Panda!) is a 30‑minute film produced in 1972. Miyazaki devised the original concept, wrote the script, designed the layouts, and handled key animation, while Takahata served as director. The plot follows a young girl named Mimiko who is left home alone in the village while her grandmother travels away. A 1973 follow‑up, Panda Kopanda: Amefuri Saakasu no Maki (Panda! Go Panda! & the Rainy‑Day Circus), extends the tale and was created by the same team. The literal meaning of Panda Kopanda translates to "Panda, Baby Panda," though it was released in North America as Panda Go Panda.
