Tokyo is currently being drenched by rain that seems to halt the usual rhythm of its residents endlessly. Amid this endless drizzle, runaway high‑schooler Hodaka Morishima arrives, struggling to pay his bills—he ends up working for a small publisher. Meanwhile, orphaned Hina Amano also hunts for jobs to support herself and her younger brother.
Their paths cross when Hodaka tries to save Hina from dubious men, and they decide to flee together. He then learns that Hina possesses an extraordinary gift: she can summon the sun whenever she prays for it. Seeing Tokyo"s strange weather, Hodaka recognizes the value of this power and proposes that Hina become a "sunshine girl"—someone who clears the sky when people need it most.
Initially things look bright for them. Yet, as everyone knows, power always carries a steep cost. Their newfound hope fuels a daring plan to use her gift for good, but obstacles loom as jealous rivals and city officials threaten their mission.
