Willem Kmetsch abandons those he loves, risking his life to confront an enigmatic foe. Though he prevails, the battle leaves him encased in ice. While he lies dormant, dreadful beasts known as Beasts surface across the planet, threatening human survival. When Willem finally awakens five centuries later, he discovers humanity has vanished and he is the last of his kind.
Alongside other surviving peoples, Willem seeks shelter on sky‑borne archipelagos, constantly wary of the Beasts below. He leads a solitary existence, taking odd assignments to sustain himself. One day he is appointed custodian of a weapons depot. Unaware at first, Willem learns the armaments are actually youthful Leprechauns who view themselves solely as instruments of war. Among them is Chtholly Nota Seniorious, ready to lay down her life to vanquish the Beasts and secure peace.
Willem assumes a paternal role for these young warriors, guarding them with affection and aiding in any way possible. Once a fearless combatant on the frontlines, he now only wishes for their safe return from the monsters that annihilated his brethren.
