In the not‑too‑distant future, Japan has endured another war and is slowly, with great difficulty, rising again from the ruins. Every war shatters ordinary life; it is a theatre of destruction where there is no room for good or evil, only purpose and means. Yet sooner or later life returns to its familiar course, and yesterday"s heroes are wrong to hope that "war will erase everything." With such thoughts in mind, the characters head to a ball in an old‑fashioned style hosted by Kanno, a prominent politician and businessman. Under investigation for profiteering from military supplies, the host wishes to save face and make a bold statement, but… he falls on stage with a knife in his back. Ironically, the ball has already gathered Japan"s top crime‑investigating specialists! Seigen Hayami from the police, Izumi Koyama from the prosecutor"s office, Rie Kaisei—daughter and representative of Rin‑taro Kaisei, the great detective‑prisoner, Japanese Nero Wolfe—and to top it off, the famous "failing detective" Shinzuro Yuki with his enigmatic partner Inga, whose abilities go far beyond explanation. Of course, together they can solve any mystery; the question is whether all secrets deserve to be brought into the light of God. In any case, at least we, the audience, will know the truth.
