Dvadsatilikiy – the most skilled thief, a phantom burglar, a living legend. He fears neither guards nor alarms nor police nor rival bandits. He kidnaps famous treasures that have fallen into wicked hands. Dvadsatilikiy acts (or believes he acts – or says he acts) according to the evangelical principle: "Do not give dogs what is holy, nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them with their feet and, turning around, tear you apart" (Matt. 7:6).
Tidzuko Mikamo is an orphan and a wealthy heiress. She lives in her uncle"s house with his wife, burdened by their guardianship, whines over food, dreams of leaving Japan and reads detective novels. What could bring them together, besides another loud crime – or saving yet another pearl from the next swine?
