In 18th‑century Paris, a casket drifts along the Seine. Inside lies Lia de Beaumont, a noblewoman and royal spy for Louis XV; her younger brother D'Eon has just earned knighthood. When a string of vanishings ripples through the city, D'Eon suspects a link to his sister"s demise. Determined to unmask her murderers, he enlists in the secret police.
Tracking clues, they uncover a plot involving French and Russian aristocrats, fueled by an occult cult. D'Eon deduces that Lia had stumbled upon the conspiracy during a covert assignment and was eliminated for it.
That night, officers plan to detain the Duke of Orléans as the alleged ringleader. Suddenly one of them morphs into a demonic Gargoyle and slaughtered the squad. D'Eon tries to save the lone survivor, only to discover he has also been changed. In the clash that follows, Lia"s wrathful spirit possesses D'Eon, who then slays the Gargoyle. Afterwards, he must rally allies to expose the full scope of this supernatural plot.
