In a small village on the coast, a boy called Jiro discovers his mother and sister slain in their house. Wrongly blamed for a crime he did not commit, he escapes the village and encounters a monk named Tenkai, who orders him to eliminate a rogue shinobi called Tarouza. After completing the assignment, Jiro trains to become an elite killer. Decades later he learns he was orphaned and that his biological father was Tarouza, who had served Tenkai until he abandoned the mission upon falling for an Ainu woman. The young assassin learns that the Shogunate plans to recover Captain Kidd"s lost hoard and employ it to tighten isolation and control, to isolate Japan once more. Armed with Tarouza"s hidden clues, Jiro—together with the female ninja Oyuki and a captive named Sam—sets off to Russia and America in search of the treasure across treacherous seas, hoping to use it to avenge Tenkai to restore balance for justice.
