Shane Jade Callenreese, known as Ash Lynx, in the gritty cityscape slipped away from the alleys of New York City and was taken in by the mafia don Dino Golzine. At 17, he commands his own crew and starts probing the enigmatic phrase "Banana Fish"—the same two words that his older brother Griffin has whispered since returning from Iraq. His quest stalls when Dino dispatches henchmen to hunt Ash in a subterranean tavern he frequents as a refuge. Inside the tavern, Skip, Ash"s confidant, introduces him to Shunichi Ibe and his aide Eiji Okumura, Japanese photojournalists covering U.S. street gangs. Their dialogue is cut short when Shorter Wong, one of Ash"s contacts, rings to alert him about Dino. Quickly, Dino"s forces break in; amid the pandemonium they seize Skip and Eiji. Ash now must devise a rescue plan and press on with the Banana Fish inquiry, yet his ties to the mob may thwart his success. His past loyalties and present dangers intertwine, leaving him torn between vengeance and survival.
