Despite reaching the pinnacle rank of shin'uchi, Yotarou still battles to define his personal identity within rakugo. Torn between his master"s instruction and the distinctive approach of the late Sukeroku, he feels his act is missing a crucial element—self. Though audiences fill the halls, he remains just one of many; rakugo faces the danger of fading away.
At the same time, Yakumo—seen by many as the final stronghold safeguarding rakugo"s fame—finds it hard to manage his advancing age. Though his shows remain remarkable, he worries he is approaching his end. His concerns deepen as a long‑time friend draws nearer. Konatsu, meanwhile, strives to raise her child alone, an endeavor Yotarou strongly disapproves of. He instead urges her to marry him so he can adopt the boy as his own.
Within Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen, the narrative concludes with Yotarou and Yakumo confronting their personal struggles while endeavoring to revive the nearly extinct art.
