During his elementary years, Shouya Ishida, a restless boy, tried to escape dullness by the harshest means. When Shouko"s hearing‑impaired joined his class, he and his peers began to harass her for amusement. Once Shouko"s mother reported the abuse, Shouya was singled out and held responsible for all that had happened. After Shouko left the school, his classmates turned their backs on him; he was shunned throughout elementary and middle school while teachers ignored the situation.
In his third year of high school, Shouya still bears the weight of those youthful transgressions. Filled with remorse, he embarks on a quest to find Shouko again and apologize. He hopes to regain the respect of his peers and heal the wounds he inflicted. The film follows his internal struggle as he confronts the echoes of his past.
Koe no Katachi portrays the touching story of Shouya"s attempt to reconcile with Shouko and earn forgiveness, all while the ghosts of his past linger.
