Shizuku Tsukishima, a lively fourteen‑year‑old, loves to read and compose poetry during her spare moments. One evening while skimming the checkout slips of her borrowed titles, she discovers that a boy named Seiji Amasawa regularly checks them out. Intrigued, Shizuku resolves to find the young man who shares her literary passion.
On a train ride she encounters an odd cat, and following the feline leads her to a charming antique shop where she learns of a cat figurine called "The Baron." Drawn into the shop, she unexpectedly meets Seiji; the two quickly become friends. Through their conversations Shizuku learns that Seiji harbors a dream he wishes to realize, which unsettles her because she still doubts her own future and has yet to recognize her talents.
Yet as their friendship deepens, Shizuku feels a growing resolve. Guided by the quiet voice of her heart and inspired by The Baron, she vows to unlock her own potential and chase her dreams and as she watches the cat statue flicker in the shop"s lantern light, a spark of hope ignites within her.
