In 1948, three years after the atomic bomb devastated Hiroshima and left much of the Nakaoka family shattered, Gen Nakaoka, his mother, and his adopted brother Ryuuta fight to endure amid the city"s wreckage. Yet, when Gen bonds with a cluster of homeless orphans, he comes to see that, in many respects, fortune favors him. The lingering radiation sickness and the callous conduct of foreign soldiers continue to mold Hiroshima"s future, compelling Gen and Ryuuta to draw inner resilience if they wish to thrive in the city again.
