Toshiko Ei and her relatives live in Tokyo. Her father is a well‑known, talented glassmaker, which sustains the family"s livelihood and the surrounding community. Yet the Ei clan soon endures numerous sorrowful trials caused by World War II and the hardships that followed for the entire family.
