Motivated by Yoshiharu Kubo's feat that propelled Kakegawa High School to a triumph in a soccer contest, Toshihiko Tanaka resolves to enroll at the same school as his hero and join the football club, aspiring to replicate Kubo's success.
Now a student, Tanaka is crushed as his hopes abruptly crumble. Kubo—the team captain—has vanished because of illness. Freshmen cannot train with sophomores or secure a spot on the roster, and his friends Kenji Shiraishi and Kazuhiro Hiramatsu refuse to join him. Though Tanaka and his companions once formed a trio in junior high, both Kenji and Kazuhiro have abandoned soccer for personal reasons.
When Tanaka begins to surrender, a chance meeting with Kazumi Endo—a childhood friend—serves as the catalyst that lifts him from despair. Disappointed Kazumi yearns for the trio's reunion, so she takes matters into her own hands with a twist. Consequently, Tanaka"s high‑school football journey readies itself for kickoff.
