From within it emerges Whisper, a spectral being released after 190 years of confinement. Grateful for the kindness that freed him, Whisper chooses to become Keita"s protector against otherworldly threats. As one of countless Youkai in the realm, Whisper gifts Keita a special Youkai Watch that lets him perceive and communicate with all other spirits.
The Youkai Watch chronicles the adventures of Keita, Whisper, and the feline spirit Jibanyan. Together they meet Youkai, make friends with them, mend the chaos they often stir up, and—using the watch"s power—draw upon the abilities of those Youkai they have already encountered to help themselves. Though Keita began as a simple elementary student when he first met the Youkai, the ensuing escapades give him priceless experiences and vital life lessons that shape his growth. These encounters teach him courage, empathy, and the value of friendship and help him navigate the complexities of growing up.
