2199 AD. The Yamato set out to depart from the Large Magellanic Cloud after acquiring a "Cosmo Reverse System" at its target, Iscandar, to secure its survival. Suddenly, it met an enigmatic faction near the outskirts of the Large Magellanic Cloud in the vast expanse. The crew discovered that this group was named the "Gatlantis," led by the Gutaba expeditionary commander who styled himself "Goran Dagaamu of Thunder" under the starry sky. He demanded that the Yamato be surrendered to him. Desiring a swift return to Earth, the ship fled the confrontation. Yet it was struck by a lethal beam weapon dubbed the "Flame Direct Attack Cannon," capable of spanning space.
The Yamato managed to withdraw, but became disoriented and entered a bizarrely tinted irregular realm. The crew chose to shut down the engines and investigate an uncanny planet. To gather data, Kodai, Kiryū, Sawamura, Niimi, and Aihara landed there. What they witnessed upon arrival was a vessel that should not have been present.
Dagaamu pursued the trail of the Yamato's warp and also arrived in the oddly colored expanse. The planet where the Yamato had come to rest was, in fact, what Dagaamu had been seeking all along, for safety.
