Momoko, who attends a special school, suffers from both mental and physical impairments. Each morning she grows irritable because she cannot attend the regular school alongside her twin brother Riki. The family comforts her by singing her beloved tune, "The Frog Song."
On a day when Riki is playing dodgeball during an open‑classroom event, Momoko shouts words of encouragement; Riki"s team emerges victorious. The losing side"s captain, Ryuji, is unimpressed and demands that Riki cease bringing his "idiot sister" to school. Overcome with anger, Riki lashes out and strikes Ryuji with full force.
The next year an inclusive‑education pilot begins, allowing Momoko to join Riki"s school. Unfortunately her physical health deteriorates and she is hospitalized. Riki and all of Momoko"s classmates decide to lift her spirits by aiming for a relay‑race win, hoping the triumph will bring her good news. Meanwhile, the fastest runner, Ryuichi, refuses to participate in the race.
