The story is about a fourteen‑year‑old boy named Susumu who participates in a secret high‑technology project codenamed "White Pegasus." The main goal of this project is to develop a miniaturization system that would allow doctors to enter the bodies of sick people and treat them without the need for radical surgical operations. However, the project"s main objective—and the project itself—goes astray when a group of scientists, reduced to microscopic size and aboard a special vessel called Wonderbeat, enters the body of one of the patients and encounters extraterrestrials. The aliens (also microscopic) conduct experiments on human bodies. From the first encounter, both sides are locked in a constant race for technological superiority: Earthlings aim to drive the aliens out, while visitors from space seek a mysterious Source of Human Life. Displaced from one organism, the aliens immediately appear in another, and because "White Pegasus" shows such persistence in fighting them, the main targets of the aliens become members of the group and their families. Neither the motives of the aggressors nor their origins are known.
