At a student party, comrades offered a drink to freshman Kyohei Kuga and sent him to confess to the universal favorite Hibino Siba, justifying it by saying that the girl's father, though a city dweller, was originally from the same place. Unfortunately, the guy did not calculate his strength; in the end, kind‑hearted Hibino herself ended up escorting the exhausted suitor. But the drunkenness fell off Kyohei instantly when, in a summoned elevator, they and his friend saw a severed body. Despite the appearance, the main character recognized the murdered compatriot and was not particularly surprised when in the evening a "kakasi" – a Divine Doll – appeared at his dwelling. Why be surprised if it was precisely this doll named Kukuri that he had left before leaving to his younger sister Utau, the next Initiate? For many centuries in the village of Soramori there has been a Temple – a secret order whose Initiates can command "God"s Shells" or Divine Dolls, supernatural beings with immense power. From his sister the hero learned that Aki, their relative‑turned‑renegade, who had killed many people with his power, fled from prison and appeared in Tokyo – apparently by his own will. After a brief conversation with the appearing Aki, the poor Kyohei"s apartment was destroyed, but Hibino"s father covered up the matter and invited the guys to stay with him, replying to their hesitant objections that these were orders from the Temple and they could not be discussed. Thus, Kuga (to the obvious displeasure of his younger sister) united with his beloved. But is it pleasant to realize that, no matter how far you run from the past, your own fate seems not to belong to you?
