Whispers say that if a young maiden bargains with a white sprite, the pact will fulfill any longing her heart holds. In return, she becomes a sorceress and must risk life to vanquish menacing witches.
Iroha Tamaki, a gentle middle‑schooler from Takarazaki Town, proves those tales right. Equipped with a spell‑powered crossbow and the gift of healing wounds, she hunts labyrinths where witches lurk and defeats them before they can harm people. Yet Iroha remembers nothing of her wish, and even Kyuubey, the white sprite himself, seems unaware of what she asked. Her mind flickers with forgotten images of a starry night, but clarity eludes her.
One evening Iroha hears gossip that a city exists where "sorceresses can be rescued," and she boards a sunset train bound for Kamihama City. Night's chill brushes her cheeks. The carriage rattles through misty tracks as distant bells echo, promising both hope and danger.
She soon learns the witches there are far stronger than usual. After veteran sorceress Yachiyo Nanami is forced to shield her, Iroha swears never to return. But when a tiny Kyuubey appears and sparks distant recollections, she feels drawn to investigate the perilous city again.
