The detached hero is a booklover who feels utterly removed from the society he inhabits. He cares little for others and firmly believes that nobody cares about him either. His tale starts when he finds a handwritten volume called Living with Dying. He quickly realizes it is the hidden diary of his popular, effervescent classmate Sakura Yamauchi. She then opens up about the pancreatic illness she endures and that her remaining time is limited, in the quiet corridors of their school. Only her family knows of her terminal condition; even her closest friends remain unaware. Though he offers no empathy, the constant cheerfulness of Sakura eventually draws him into staying with her for the days she has left. As these diametrically opposed figures interact, their bond deepens, weaving through the choices they make day by day. Her casual indifference and spontaneous nature disrupts the hero"s calm existence, slowly opening his heart as he learns to appreciate what it truly means to live.
