Left behind by her mother at birth, Aoi Tsubaki has always possessed the gift of seeing ayakashi—spirits that dwell in the Hidden Realm. Her grandfather Shirou Tsubaki, who shared this sight, became her mentor and taught her to coexist peacefully with the ayakashi. When Shirou dies suddenly, Aoi must resume her university studies, relying solely on her culinary skills to ward off the flesh‑eating spirits. Determined that these beings will not devour her or unsuspecting humans, she resolves to nourish the hungry spirits whenever they appear.
After feeding a mysterious ayakashi, Aoi is whisked into the Hidden Realm where the spirit reveals himself as Oodanna, an ogre‑god known as the "Master Innkeeper." She discovers that she was collateral for her grandfather"s 100‑million‑yen debt, and that the only way to settle it is by marrying Oodanna. Aoi boldly rejects this bargain and vows to repay the debt on her own terms: she will open a restaurant within Oodanna"s inn.
Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi chronicles Aoi"s path as she transforms and touches the lives of ayakashi using her sole weapon—mouthwatering cuisine. Through each dish, she learns more about herself and the hidden world.
