When he was a boy, Arimasa Tsuchimikado saved an injured feline and prayed that it would turn into a person. The creature, Kagetsu, is in fact a shapeshifting member of the Kouga clan and settles with Arimasa.
Decades later, Arimasa feels like an outsider in his hamlet. The locals loathe him for being half‑fox, yet he is the sole defender against otherworldly threats. At the same time, Kagetsu faces a hard choice: which gender he will adopt for life, a decision that can only be finalized through intimate union.
Confronted by pressure from other Kouga kin who reject Kagetsu"s desires, the village suffers a massive supernatural onslaught. With his quiet existence endangered, Arimasa must confront grim choices as the night thickens, he must choose between loyalty and survival and the fate of all those he loves.
