High‑school student Nanami Momozono has been beset by a series of hardships. Her father"s sudden disappearance and crippling debt have forced the family to abandon their home, leaving Nanami without shelter or support. While aimlessly roaming the city she stumbles upon a man cornered by an aggressive stray dog. Nanami intervenes, saves him, and then confides in the grateful stranger that she has nowhere to stay. He offers her his own residence, but Nanami soon realizes it is a crumbling shrine. Determined to leave, she is intercepted by two guardian spirits and a fox familiar named Tomoe. Mistaking her for the man she rescued—the shrine"s land deity, Mikage—Tomoe departs in a hurry, refusing to serve a mortal. Rather than return to destitution, Nanami decides to accept her newfound divine role. To keep the shrine operational she needs a partner, and her mind turns to the fiery fox she once met. She retraces her steps in search of Tomoe, but her clumsy approach lands her in peril. Ultimately she is compelled to seal a contract with the fox, binding them together as master and familiar. Their shared path toward godhood is fraught with danger: a hungry youkai intent on devouring her, a serpent that wishes to wed her, and Nanami"s unexpected growing affection for the fox. Despite these trials, Nanami"s resolve strengthens as she embraces her destiny.
