The conflict against the Tokugawa Shogunate concluded many years ago, yet some remain dissatisfied with its result. Shigure Takimi witnessed his companions and relatives slaughtered under the banner of liberty and progress. Today he leads a ragged faction of rebels determined to exact one final retribution. Only a single adversary blocks their path: Kenshin Himura. However, when Shigure learns that Kenshin is in fact the Hitokiri Battousai, his crusade turns into a personal grudge for vengeance.
