In the closing years of the 19th century, as Japan"s harsh Bakumatsu era ended, a fresh Meiji age began, heralding national renewal. With hostilities finished, the notorious hero Hitokiri Battousai vanished into oblivion, leaving only his myth behind.
Decades later, a modest wanderer called Kenshin Himura meets Kaoru Kamiya, the proprietor of a faltering Tokyo dojo. Kaoru hunts a self‑styled Battousai who prowls the streets, killing civilians and officers alike. The impostor also claims mastery of the Kamiya Kasshin‑ryu—a blade art founded by Kaoru"s father, rooted in life rather than death.
Kenshin resolves to aid Kaoru in defeating the fraud and reviving her father"s school. Unknown to everyone, Kenshin is actually the authentic Battousai whose name still frightens people. When Kaoru discovers this, his vow to redeem himself by protecting the helpless without shedding blood touches her, and she invites Kenshin to train at her dojo. Yet his convictions soon face trials from lingering specters of the past and present foes.
Despite the looming danger, Kenshin"s resolve strengthens, guiding him toward an uncertain future where honor and compassion intertwine toward a brighter tomorrow.
