Description

At the dawn of the Taishō period, the era of tanuki mischief faded away. Those raccoon‑dog spirits who could shape‑shift into humans once relished tricking people, but the rise of modern technology made their antics pointless. Yet Mameda, a young tanuki girl, clung to the legacy and—determined to follow her father's path—journeyed to Osaka hoping to hoodwink crowds.

As the villagers had warned, Mameda failed to fool anyone and was chased by a furious mob. Seeking shelter in an auditorium, she encountered a rakugo show performed by the renowned master Bunko Daikokutei. Captivated by the vivid scenes painted through his storytelling, Mameda fell in love with the art and vowed to become Bunko's student.

Although initially hesitant to take a pupil, Bunko was moved by the tanuki"s resolve and began teaching her rakugo. While balancing a taiko apprenticeship, theater duties, and memorizing scripts, Mameda must devote herself fully if she wishes to master the sole art that still holds a chance of deceiving people.
