Vanitas and Noé Archiviste set out for the town of Gévaudan to find the infamous "Beast," a wolf‑like creature that has already slaughtered hundreds of people. Convinced that the Beast is a cursed vampire, Vanitas plans to heal it using the powerful spells in grimoire.
On their expedition, the pair become separated and are suddenly hurled back to a point in time when the Beast lurks within the forest. After a confrontation with both the wolf and vampire hunter, Vanitas decides to ally himself with Jeanne in a bid to locate Noé. Even though they are on the same side, Jeanne"s objective sharply diverges from Vanitas": she has been ordered to kill the Beast, believing it may be someone she knew.
Meanwhile, a wounded Noé is rescued by the enigmatic Chloé d"Apchier and her loyal servant. Like Noé, Chloé is a vampire whose very existence has been erased from record. She has served as a guardian for generations and once sought a way to regain her humanity. While Noé is grateful for Chloé"s hospitality, he remains oblivious to the fact that she may be aligned with forces far more perilous than the Beast itself.
