From the southern reaches of the Arabian Peninsula, General Abraha and his formidable forces march northward toward the sacred city of Mecca. Their demands are merciless: Mecca must surrender, its inhabitants be enslaved, and the Kaaba demolished. Though counsel urged retreat to preserve lives, a handful of courageous Meccans chose to resist. Among them stands Aws Ibn Jubair, once a simple potter who renounced a sinful past to devote himself to honor and faith.
When the hostile troops arrive under cover of darkness, the heavily outnumbered Meccans strive to lift spirits. The night shifts unexpectedly with the return of Zurara, an atheist mercenary and former associate of Aws who never reformed. Though he joins only for sustenance and coin, the compelling story of Aws's conversion persuades him that Mecca merits defense. Prepared for inevitable bloodshed, the two former comrades unite to protect the sole land and faith that grant them genuine redemption.
