In 1931, the Tokugawa Shogunate still governs, marking the 64th year of the Meiji period. By monopolizing the newly unearthed "Dragon Vein," the administration steers Japan into a modernized Edo era in Japan's history and its future. During this epoch, an elite cadre of executioners known as "Nue" is charged with protecting the Shogunate from a rebellious faction called the "Kuchinawa."
Owning the Tsuyukasa Bookshop, Sawa Yukimura manages its daily operations quietly with a subtle smile. Yet beneath the surface she hunts revenge against the man who massacred her tribe and kin. Endowed with a transformative gift from her blue lineage, Sawa joins the Nue after being assured of intel on her target: Janome, the chief of the Kuchinawa.
