In 1967 the lunar expedition first encountered "soulmates." Massive aliens overpowered the astronauts, then destroyed the lunar base, and by 1973 they had reached Earth. Only through extreme tension of enemy forces named BETA was it possible to hold them at the borders of Eurasia, with the main role played by hastily built 20‑meter combat robots. Island Japan, of course, emerged victorious: it is now, along with the United States and Russia, a leading military power. But what does that mean? By the end of the twentieth century it became clear that Earthlings were merely defending themselves, and defeat was a matter of time. Meanwhile in Kyoto, at an elite pilot school, Yui Takamura studied – a descendant of an ancient samurai clan close to the Emperor… The inevitable happened – BETA broke into Japan and rushed toward the capital. Cadets, still unfinished in their training, found themselves on the front – history has seen this many times. Takamura was one of the few who managed to survive, literally avoiding falling into the jaws of the conquerors, gaining experience and skill. And thus combat successes (and kinship ties) led to Yui being sent as a coordinator to a secret base in Alaska, where, in a desperate attempt to turn the tide of war, an international team of scientists creates a new generation of combat robots. Of course, the best young pilots from various nations will test the machines while figuring out who among them is the coolest. And how else – without a Hussar"s charge and daring, humanity"s last trump would never be played!
