In a realm where humans and witches are in perpetual conflict, there are the "beastfallen"—humans cursed to possess animal‑like looks and strength. Their raw power and feral demeanor make them feared and ostracized by both peoples, so many turn to mercenary work hunting witches for a living.
Even amid this hatred, the cheerful witch Zero recruits a beastfallen she calls "Mercenary" to serve as her guardian. Together with Albus, a novice wizard, they seek the Grimoire of Zero, a spell tome that could wreak havoc if misused. As they travel, the beastfallen"s hidden compassion surfaces; he shows empathy toward both humans and witches, forging an unlikely bond among the trio.
Their path takes them through ruined villages and enchanted forests, where each encounter tests their resolve. Despite initial mistrust, the beastfallen"s gentle spirit gradually earns them trust.
