After stepping away from Tokyo"s relentless pace, Souta Tawara heads back to his native Kagawa. The quiet countryside of Kagawa contrasts sharply with the city"s noise, and though his parents have passed, the old house and family‑owned udon shop still echo memories of a united household. While musing over his youth, he walks into the restaurant and finds a dirty boy curled up asleep.
Initially, Souta takes no notice of the encounter and gives the child food and clothes. Suddenly, to his astonishment, the boy sprouts a pair of furry ears and a tail! He soon discovers that the nameless youth is, in fact, the legendary shapeshifting tanuki said to roam Kagawa for years. Believing the creature has lived in solitude, Souta invites him home and christens him Poko.
Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari chronicles the touching bond between Souta and Poko, and as they share moments together, Souta remembers his former life, the town he left for the metropolis, and his bond with his father—and the lessons he learned from him.
