After her grandfather's recent passing, Hamaji Ooyama spends her days alone on a secluded mountain, foraging for sustenance and tending to herself. One morning, her brother—an aspiring samurai residing in Edo—sends a letter inviting her to leave the solitude and join him in the capital. Upon arrival, she is confronted by a gruesome tableau: the severed heads of six dogs displayed for all to witness. Those heads belong to the Fuse, a cadre of eight human‑dog hybrids that have been terrorizing Edo's populace.
Hamaji aids a mysterious man to escape an assaulting group and reaches her brother's residence, where he requests that she assist in capturing the remaining two Fuse and fulfilling a Shogunate‑backed bounty. Yet this task proves far more difficult than it appears, as the Fuse can seamlessly blend into human society—though the benevolent stranger Hamaji had just helped revealed unmistakable signs of their nature and the danger looms ever larger.
