Hiroki Fujisawa and Takuya Shirakawa cherish two constants in their world: the friendship of classmate Sayuri Sawatari and the towering Ezo structure that stretches across the Tsugaru Strait. Captivated by its endless reach, they repurpose a crashed drone into an aircraft called Bella Ciela, hoping to someday touch the tower"s sky‑high pinnacle. When Sayuri joins them, they vow together that she will accompany them to the tower"s mythical summit. Yet Japan remains split north‑south, and tension flares at the tower"s foothill, which delineates the U.S.‑administered southern islands from Soviet‑occupied northern territory.
Later, Sayuri vanishes without trace; Hiroki and Takuya never see her again. They later discover she has been in a sleep disorder, rendering her comatose for three years. When they learn of her condition, they also find that the unconscious state is strangely tied to the very tower they pledged to reach.
