Welcome to Kyoto. Not the familiar city in Japan, but Kyoto from a parallel world whose inhabitants consist of humans, shape‑shifting raccoons, and tengu (long‑nosed goblins from Japanese folklore). Yasaburo Simagamo is a somewhat shy third‑born son in the family of shape‑shifting raccoons. His father, Soichiro Simagami, was the head of Kyoto"s raccoon community until he was eaten by a man from some "Friday Club." Yasaburo loves to daydream, and occasionally, due to forgetfulness, turns into a high‑school girl. It"s not that he is the only odd one in his family – his older brother Yajiro enjoys spending time as a frog, pondering the meaning of life in secluded and damp places, while his sister Benten has long flown carefree above the city. Yasaburo spends his days caring for old tengu, battling other shape‑shifting raccoons, and playing with a strange human girl. But fate gives him a chance to unravel the mystery of his father"s strange death.
